The Treble Strings:
Treble means high or highest. The highest strings on the guitar are the 1st, 2nd and 3rd Strings. The 1st String is the thinnest string on your guitar and it is made from plain steel wire. The 2nd string is the second smallest string and is also made from plain steel wire. The 3rd string is made from a plain steel core wire and is wound with bronze wire. The 3rd string is the lowest of the 3 treble strings.
Here Are The Note on Each String:
1st String: E, F, G
2nd String: B, C, D
3rd String: G, A
Notice that the 1st and 2nd Strings each have 3 notes and the 3rd String only has 2 notes. That is not a misprint. That is the way the notes layout on the strings.

Now let’s take a look at the diagram above and see how all 8 of these notes are laid out on the strings. You will note
Notes On The Treble Strings:
C 5th String; 3rd Fret
G 3rd String; Open
A 3rd String; 2nd Fret
B 2nd String; Open
C 2nd String; 1st Fret
D 2nd String; 3rd Fret
E 1st String; Open
F 1st String; 1st Fret
G 1st String; 3rd Fret
Memorize each of these notes. Note that the finger and the fret number are the same. In other words, when you play a note on the 2nd Fret, you play that note with your Left Hand middle finger or 2nd Finger.

Look how the notes printed on the upper staff relate to the TAB on the lower staff. The TAB Staff is 6 lines, each lines stands for one string. The top line is the same as the 1st String of the Guitar and the bottom line of the TAB Staff is the 6th String. Notice how the TAB Staff lines run through the numbers written on the TAB. The number on each TAB line stands for the Fret Number of that String.
For more information on reading TAB refer to our article on Reading TAB. We provide a simplified version of reading TAB so you can play both the notation (on the top Staff) and TAB on the lower Staff.
