Guitar Pro Software:
As you will note, with each Guitar Lesson, you have access to the .pdf file of both the text and score portions of the lesson as a free download. You also have access to the Guitar Pro file which has a extension of .gp5.

Guitar Pro is at the Heart of our Lessons:
This Guitar Pro file is at the heart of our lessons and one of the best aids you will have to help you play both correctly and smoothly. With the Guitar Pro file you will be able to watch and hear the song in real time. You can pull the song up into the program and you will see the score on the open ing page.

We Only Need a Few Features at First:
When you use Guitar Pro for the first time and for these first guitar lessons, we only need to utilize a few features of the hundreds that you have available to you. Being quite a full featured program, we will use more of the advanced feature as we progress in these lessons.

For the beginner kids we only want to use the program as a trainer to get the timing of the notes correct, to play the correct notes and to use it as a speed trainer to slowly gain speed while maintain proper timing for each note.

Also, the visual feed-back that the program give is an excellent way to step up the memorization and visualization skills to recoginize notes as you play them.

Download a Free Trial Now:
Download a trial copy of Guitar Pro now. It is available for both Mac and PC so choose your platform. If is free of charge if you use it strictly as a plahyer. There are some limited editing functions that are available with the free version, but you are limited to the number of measures and lackof printing and saving of larger files.

Depending on your computer capabilities, you will need to set up your sound preferences. Please follow the included documentation to get everything setup for your system. Once you have done this, follow these program specific settings to allow you to start your play-along training.

Once it is downloaded on your computer, double-click on the .gp5 that you downloaded for your lesson. The lesson will open up with that song in the main window. To set up the program you will want to make sure that the correct windows are open.

Go to the Windows menu and make sure the following have checkmarks by them:
Tools Window
Play
Tracks
Fretboard

Arrange these windows so they are visible as well as the main window.

To play along with the song do this:

Select the Proper Tempo:
From the Window Menu select Tempo
You can set the tempo value in the right selection – try to start at about 50, which will be a slow easy pace. Set slower or faster as needed.

Loop the Song:
From the Sound Menu, select Loop. If this tool did not have a checkmark a window will open up and you can select either Simple Loop or Speed Trainer Loop. You should select Simple Loop for now. Select Speed Trainer Loop once you have you song well worked out and want to increase your speed.

Play the Song:
Use your mouse and click on the first note. Now hit the space bar to start playing and hang on. Hit spacebar again to stop. Make any revision you need to with Tempo or Volume of the track.

In later lessons we will use this program to edit songs, arrange them, add chord and bass track and a lot more. For instance we can take one of the basic songs we are playing right now and add all kinds of runs, licks and other nice things to really spice up a plain song – and we will too!
